Mrs. Minnie Jean Crayton Sawyer-Edmond was born on October 11, 1936 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Leonard Sawyer and Esther Crayton. Minnie was the third of four children. Minnie received her heavenly wings on January 28, 2017. Minnie is preceded in death by her parents, her brother Titus and her beloved husband William Edmond.

To most Minnie was known as “Jean”.  She attended Indianapolis Public School #26 and Crispus Attucks High School. It there she met her soulmate William Ernest Edmond Sr. They later married and began their union that lasted over 40 years. Together they raised six children. Jean worked at a local hotel for many years.

Jean was known to be the life of the party and she thoroughly enjoyed being with family and friends. Jean loved being around people, cooking, and having a good time. Jean was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt and friend.

Jean leaves to cherish her precious memories: two daughters, Diane Thompson (Jeff); Linda Sawyer (Roosevelt) four sons, William Ernest Edmond II (Christine) Atlanta, GA, Darrell Edmond (Nellie), James Edmond (Marie) and John Edmond (DeAndra); two sisters; Energene McDonald and Linnie Mae Sawyer of Indianapolis, Indiana; 11 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 1 great-great grandchild and a host of family and friends who will greatly miss her.

A funeral service will be conducted on February 3rd of 2017 at Living Word Baptist Church, 4934 E. 21st Street Indianapolis, IN 46218. The family will welcome friends and family from 11 am until 1 pm, service will begin at 1 pm. Burial will follow at Crown Hill Cemetery.
